Fall Fun at Stamford Museum & Nature Center

Fall, Things to Do, Stamford, CT, Hotel, Stamford Museum & Nature Center

Young and old delight in the woodsy attractions of the Stamford Museum & Nature Center, a wonderful learning institution just a stone’s throw or two from us here at Hotel Zero Degrees.

The facility, which rests on a lovely 100-odd acres of forest and field in North Stamford, offers nature trails, the barnyard delights of the Heckscher Farm, the state-of-the-art Stamford Observatory (with its whopping research telescope), and a wonderful spectrum of ecological, historical, and cultural exhibits in the museum proper, which occupies the historic Henri Bendel Mansion.

All things considered, the Stamford Museum & Nature Center—going strong since the mid-1930s—is a year-round destination for all-ages education and outdoor recreation. But it’s also the venue for a whole assortment of special seasonal events, and there are some mighty fun ones in store for this autumn.

Oktoberfest in the Meadow

Slip into those lederhosen and dirndls (not that they’re required, of course) and celebrate fall at the Stamford Museum & Nature Center’s very own version of Oktoberfest on Friday, October 6 from 7 to 10 PM! The seasonal craft beer will be flowing, the plates will be laden with traditional, crowd-pleasing German eats, and the DJ-supplied soundtrack will be suitably inspiring. Oh, and did we mention there’s a S’mores Bar involved? Good luck resisting that…

Harvest Festival Weekend

The oom-pah rhythms will have barely faded before the Museum & Nature Center kicks off its next fabulous fall shindig: Harvest Festival Weekend! This family-friendly soiree goes down Saturday, October 14 and Sunday, October 15, with a jampacked lineup of wholesome entertainment: storytelling, face-painting, cider-making, haybale-climbing, llama-riding, costumed parading, and a whole lot more. Cast your vote in the scarecrow contest and get front-row seats for some vintage musketry courtesy of the Fifth Connecticut Regiment Colonial Militia Re-enactors. There’ll be no shortage of tasty treats, either, given the cider donuts being whipped up at Heckscher Farm and all the food trucks parked in the Meadow.
