Ives Concert Park: Primo Entertainment & an Homage to a Famous Native Son

Ives Concert Park is named after one of Danbury, Connecticut’s best-known hometown heroes: Charles Ives, among the most famous and influential American composers in history. (Incidentally, you can check out his birthplace here in Danbury at the Charles Ives House managed by the Danbury Museum & Historical Society, though the interior is currently closed for restoration.)

More than 65,000 people attend the concerts put on annually at the amphitheater, which occupies a gorgeous wooded swath of 40 acres anchored by a postcard-perfect pond. This lovely location and its enthusiastic audiences have attracted some big names over the years: Past performers at Ives Concert Park have included Steely Day, ZZ Top, the Beach Boys, Peter Yarrow, Garrison Keillor, Tony Bennett, Fiona Apple, Peter Frampton, and Robert Randolf & The Family Band.

Upcoming Shows at Ives Concert Park

There’s an awful lot of good stuff coming down the pike at Ives Concert Park this summer. On Sunday, July 14th, for example Connecticut Ballet will present a wonderful program of classic and contemporary dance in its “Ballet Under the Stars,” among the highlights of which will be company premieres by choreographers from the U.S., Cuba, and West Africa.

On Saturday, July 20th, meanwhile, the fifth edition of the Forever Grateful Music Festival once again pays tribute to one of the most enduringly popular American rock bands, the Grateful Dead. If you count yourself among the worldwide legions of “Deadheads,” we invite you to call Hotel Zero Degrees Danbury home for the occasion.

On Friday, July 26th, the Louisiana-born singer/songwriter Marc Broussard will wow the crowd at Ives Concert Park with his soulful stew of rootsy R&B, while the next day marks the Westside Reggae Fest, featuring returning headliner Beres Hammond as well as Maxi Priest, Etana, Anthem Band, and others.
